  • 2011 Albums Ratings

    21 May 2011, 06:18 by Omega_Switch22B

Rather than keeping a "top albums of 2011" list going on, I'm just going to list all the albums I've listened to this year thus far, along with the rating I associate with it based on my subjective sentiments and criticisms. It's a way to disseminate recommendations and show just how much time I've wasted- or gained?- on obsessing over music this year. I would include some short comments but I'm not that dedicated to the cause- too much time investment. Word.

    Recommendations are most appreciated.

    ★★★★★- Perfection, all-time classic
    ★★★★½- Excellence, recommended to anyone
    ★★★★- Great, recommended to most
★★★½- Very good, enjoyable despite lacking outstanding qualities.
    ★★★- Decent, recommended to fans
    ★★½- Average, indifference
★★- Poor, recommended only to hardcore fans
    ★½- Bad, avoid
★- Terrible, please don't waste your time
½- An abomination to the ear

40 Watt Sun- The Inside Room (doom metal, ★★★½)
    40winks- It's the Trip (instrumental hip-hop, ★★★)

  • 2007 - Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal releases

There are a fair number of and albums to be released this year, so I thought I would mention them.

    Forgotten Tomb:
Their recently released album, 'Negative Megalomania', combines elements of black metal into a kind of black doomish sound. The sound is much clearer but depressive atmosphere is still very much present. Athough it took a couple of listens, I found it to be an exellent release, and perhaps their best yet: very much in the style of Katatonia's first two albums.

    Be Persecuted:
Already released this year is "I.I", the debut album by the depressive Chinese band Be Persecuted. Apart from containing a couple of extra songs, it is not so different from the demo but it is well worth a purshase. And for those that do not know this group yet, I also strongly recommend them.

    Nocturnal Depression:
"Soundtrack For A Suicide - Opus II", the recently released new album of Nocturnal Depression is in my opinion one of their best yet. …
