You're right, LucidStrike. It's easy to forget that the border between Canada and the US was imaginary and fluid until recent decades. Folk music and the working-class experience aren't really all that different in the US and Canada. They have their cowboys, we have our voyageurs; they have a desert, we have the tundra. And both countries have had their share of personal struggle, economic hardship and musical catharsis.

It's not uniquely American. I hate when people make it seem like everything awesome is American. =/

To Punk and kinx: I think the bio means to say that singing your OWN SONGS and playing guitar - as a raw expression of yourself and society- is a american tradition stretching back to Woodie Guthrie. The Delta Blues is related but different river . Greg M. is a fine example indeed of the Woody delta

I used to listen to this guy so long ago and I'd forgotten all about him since the Great Hard Drive Wipe Disaster. Really great stuff!

What do you mean with related? Musically or blood? I mean, the similar artists are not generated by likeness of the artists musically (or any other ways) but by what many people who like this particular artist also listen to.

I don't see how he can be related to Woody Guthrie... AT ALL. other than he sings and plays guitar...
