  • Silly thing to debate, I'm sure, but I would suggest that the version from DP4 (1970, Filmore East) is the definitive version. Great sound quality, really lovely, free performance.
  • Man how this song can change from time to time and be a completely different new experience no matter how many times you have heard any individual take of it. 2/18/71 or 18/2/71 depending on how you see it is so otherworldly in a really mellow way compared to the most energetic '69 takes. I like coming back here to see what other particular shows others mention.
  • Live/Dead 19:09-20:40
  • >19:45 >longest song ever taggers, you made my day actually
  • All versions of this are timeless and stand as their own beautiful piece, but the selection from Live/Dead is the most fierce and primal, pure Dead to me.
  • fillmore west '69(2.28) god damn i love this band
  • 6/24/70 Capitol Theatre. Dark Star -> Attics of My Life -> Dark Star -> Sugar Magnolia -> Dark Star So. Damn. Good.
  • love the original &60s dark stars for jer's cutting tone
  • Steppin' Out (April 8, 1972) version is unbelievable; rocks my socks off. Straight into a hell of a rockin' Sugar Magnolia, too... Fantastic stuff!
  • sunshine daydream (8 -27 -1972) is amazing
