American Beauty is the perfect start-up album for someone new to the Dead. It got me into the Dead, my dad into the Dead, my brother in to the Dead...you get the picture. Box of Rain or Friend of the Devil are my favorites. After American Beauty, Workingman's Dead is a good one to migrate too. Casey Jones and Uncle Johns Band are my favorites on that album. Then you can move onto Europe '72 and on

Casey Jones is a song that is frequently stuck in my head. It would annoy me to hell if it weren't such a great song.

It's cute how serious people are about what songs are in the top 20. Darkstar Orchestra was here monday, and man, they did May 17th '74. Great set. Especially the ending Sugar Magnolia.(Big Applause during Truckin' at the mention of 'Buffalo')

Where the FUCK is Me&My Uncle?????????? It's only the song that the Dead played the most in their entire mind-expanding career!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    May 2007
  • tiredsymphony

I would consider giving up one of my limbs to see them play live back in the day. With the Wall of Sound. But I suppose if I had a time machine, I could also travel to the future to get myself a new robot clone limb. Good deal.

I know I look like a noob for listening to a greatest hits album, but Skeletons from the Closet is one of my all-time favorites.

    April 2007
  • MGSRevolver

there's no way of fixing that problem. unfortunately your album information is not scrobbled, just the song and artist name. and if that song was originally tagged with an official release (studio or otherwise) then it is recorded that way.

  • carbfreetreat

brown eyed women, morning dew, terrapin?!?! shit, i'm not even really a deadhead and i know these are essentials. where are theyyyy? where the fuck is terrapin station??!!

The guys played as The Warlocks before becoming Grateful Dead. I saw them at an all-ages club in Sunnyvale, CA, as the Warlocks. Also, Jerry was still teaching banjo lessons atDana Morgan's (in Palo Aalto, right up until they changed the 'Warlocks' name. P.S. The y played my high scool, at 3:30 in the afternoon whoa) and Bobby announced that their first album was coming out, later this week
