Hope his performances at the Proms get him some more listens here, one of the all-too-obscure British composers. The Celtic Symphony is a seriously beautiful piece. (And maybe one day, Last.fm will link Bantock, Granville here... I live in hope)
Beg borrow or steal the Handley/Hyperion Celtic Symphony disc - stunningly played, and music that makes a real impact. It shocked me at first how different Bantock was from his contemporaries (Parry, Stanford). His music is far more passionate and affecting, and looks forward to Bax, but not in a way which lessens his style as mere "development" - in fact, the additional structure puts Bantock when at his best on the same level as Bax as far as I am concerned. Truly shamelessly emotive music.
