Biography

Grand Duchy is a recent project consisting of Black Francis, a.k.a. Frank Black, of Pixies fame along with his wife, Violet Clark. Their first album, Petits fours, was released February 2009.

    This is the most invested in a project Frank's been in a long time. I heard somewhere that a person can change completely in 7 years, provided there's a different environment and different circumstances, and I can't think of a much bigger lifestyle change than fatherhood (not to mention the breakup and new marriage). This is the newest Charles Kitteredge Thompson the IV: able to play support, able to compromise, able to lay down a bitchin' rhythm guitar and a few screams and let it at that. Also not out to destroy the 80s. If you compare each phase to each other, you'll come off disappointed. Treat Pixies as different from Frank Black; treat FB as different from FB and the Catholics; treat FB&tC as different from Black Francis; and treat Grand Duchy as something new. Also? Give these two another album to sharpen up. I'll admit to not liking every song on here (I actually hate Fort Wayne), but there's plenty of good stuff here (like Black Suit or Lovesick).

    how can you say this is his best album since (insert great FB album)? this is horrendous, euro synth-pop, r&b influenced garbage. his wife obviously listens to shit music
