Originating from Austin, Texas, Govinda is the project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Shane O’Madden. On albums like his 1998 debut O Earthly Gods and the following year’s Entwined & Entranced, O’Madden blends elements of classical Indian and Asian music with drum and bass and trip-hop inspired beats.

From the artist: “Govinda will be hibernating indefinitely maybe to metamorphosize into a new musical species in early 2010…”

I have a copy of their last Live set at the Mercury. It was also the last night the Mercury was open. Shane has gone on with his own music, sound, and style since then and I've been privileged to recently catch back up with him. Once when he opened for Bass Nectar and then again for Shpongel Thank Govinda he's still making music.
