So it looks like this week, Stackridge
climbed to the top of my “Most Listened To” chart on last.fm, quite good going for a band I only discovered earlier this year, whilst browsing some of my neighbours profiles.
A quick listen to some sound samples from the Friendliness album on allmusic.com
and I was hooked! Here was a band that seemed to sum up all that I love about music:
1. They have the ridiculously catchy melodies that once lodged inside your brain will not leave for months. (one listen to “Slark” and I was annoying my girlfriend for weeks with it’s incessant whistling refrain)
2. They have that peculiar brand of English Eccentricity that puts you in mind of the late great Vivian Stanshall twanging an ukulele along to a Noel Coward ditty, whilst supping tea on the lawn.
3. They can also seriously rock out! 10 minute prog epics such as “Purple Spaceships Over Yatton” and “God Speed the Plough” get properly lysergic on your ass…
