About This Track

“Radar Love” was the hit single that first brought the band international chart success. The song reached #13 in the US and is often considered the greatest or one of the greatest driving songs. There are over 300 known cover versions, most notably versions by Omen, White Lion, U2, R.E.M., Blue Man Group, Def Leppard, James Last, Nine Pound Hammer, Santana and Ministry.

“Radar Love” is featured in the soundtrack of the films Wayne’s World 2 and Detroit Rock City as well as the video games Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80’s and Rock N’ Roll Racing.
The song was also featured heavily in the Reaper (tv series) episode “Love, Bullets & Blacktop”. It has appeared in two episodes of The Simpsons and is one of Homer’s favorite songs that he doesn’t know the lyrics to. Portions of the song were also used in Téa Leoni’s sitcom The Naked Truth as the theme song.

The song title was used as the name of an episode in the popular web series Red vs. Blue.
In a video of a training exercise with the Oregon Air National Guard.
As a part of the ambient soundtrack around Rita - Queen of Speed at Alton Towers.
As of July 2008, appears as the sound track to an on-line Jaguar promotion.
As part of the setlist in the PlayStation 2 exclusive .
In a Volcom United montage filmed exclusively at The Berrics skatepark.

    The song is all in 4/4 time, and the original tempo is around 100 BPM. It's a very clever arrangement: the intro is on the beat of each bar at the start. The shuffle on the snare is semi triplets which give the illusion of the song speeding up. You have to quantize drum machines to a 6th beat. Consequently the chorus is doubled up to give the impression that the tempo has speeded up to 200 BPM. You have to transpose the 4/4 bar so it can be played with in 1 beat of the bar.
