Biography

Gnostic was formed in January of 2005 when guitarist Sonny Carson (CORPSEWORM, SEVERED) and bassist Stephen Morley (CORPSEWORM, AOS, CAUSTIC THOUGHT) met up with drummer Steve Flynn (ATHEIST). Timing, it seems, is everything. Flynn was a founding member of the legendary technical death metal metal pioneers Atheist, and parted ways with the band in 1992, but it wasn’t until December of 2004 that Flynn decided he wanted to get back into playing seriously, and began searching for musicians in Atlanta. Flynn put out a message on Atlantamusican.com that briefly outlined his experience and said he was looking to form a band with like-minded musicians based in the area.

    Sad News today. Lord Magus Obliterator, the vocalist of Gnostic (Raw Black Metal) has passed away from liver cancer on 9/19/2012. He was 43. (R.I.P. JR Obliterator)

    I don't understand what you guys see on this band. It has a whooping one ORIGINAL Atheist member (Flynn, who does indeed shine here as usual) and couple new-comer atheists and suddenly they are the next best thing? Sure, Flynn is good but what more was there again? Not much really. Weak as hell 'core vocalist, pointless artsy semi-technical wankery (current wave standards) but most importantly no real songwriting abilities at all. See, these guys really try to sound like their daddy band (they got the bass running and the general feel is surely Atheistic), but they don't have none of the qualities that made Atheist once, and even still, so great (the ever-changing mix of carefully chosen diffirent themes which they also made to work, decades after decades, just to mention something right of the bat). In fact, as a standalone band they don't have ANY qualities at would make me listen them anytime again. Disposable superficial new-wave techgarbage, to but it bluntly.
