Go Square Go! (3:36)
From Go Square Go!
“Go Square Go” was the first single released by Glasvegas, and it features on their eponymous debut album, released on September 08, 2008.
It was written by the band’s principal songwriter, singer and guitarist James Allan. Rab Allan plays lead guitar, Paul Donoghue plays bass, and Caroline McKay plays drums.
The single version of the song was recorded in 2006 at Central Sound Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, whilst the version from the album was recorded in 2008 at Brooklyn Recording Studios in Brooklyn, New York.
The song is written from the perspective of a young male who is about to become embroiled in pugilistic combat, and it deals with his subsequent emotions. It transpires throughout the course of the song that he has been told not to come home by his parents, if he runs away.
Go Square Go is in the key of C major and is in 4/4 time.
In keeping with the rest of the album, Go Square Go utilises echo, reverb, delay and various production techniques to create an enormous, epic, “widescreen” sound.
It has become popular among (although not exclusively to) lager-drinkers at live performances due, in part, to its “here we fucking go” refrain. This effectively “gees up” the crowd inciting bouncing and what could be described as a “sing-along”.

listens to Go Square Go! a lot
If he wants to fight you
At the school gates
Half past four grab your bag
Don't you be late, oh
