I could tell this was Rossini without looking at the computer screen. Some similarity to William Tell Overture.

Love this track as brings back fond memories when I was a kid and playing in an amateur concert band. Being a Newcastle United fan, at the time I was in the band there was player for Newcastle named Paul Gascoigne, a local lad and a magpie fan playing for his home team, and a brilliant player also. Why am I telling you all this ? Newcastle are known as the Magpies, as are their fans, and Gascoigne's nick name was Gazza - the name of this piece is La Gazza Ladra, aka The Thieving Magpie. Pure coincidence but a nice piece of trivia all the same !

One of my favorite overtures, but then, I don't think I ever met an overture I didn't like.
