    All of these remixes of Summertime fail to catch the oppressive atmosphere and wistfulness of the original... nice jazzy tune, but undermines the intended effect

    @miss_unafraid -thanks for the thought of Janis Joplin etc; I'll see if I can put that in my library. Snag with a search is that the results aren't sortable and there are 714 pages! http://www.last.fm/search/overview?q=summertime&type=track&page=714 - - - - - Snag with previews is that the stream doesn't always match the preview. I'm hoping that people who KNOW they KNOW who's singing might be able to inform us. ??

    Well, every female artist seems to sing this song: Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday and more. I personally like Ella's version. But the classical version of this song is also great! When the song is sung by famous singers (the ones mentioned above), I tend to tag the song by the singer's name; when it's the classical version I always tag it by it's composer.
