Biography

New York City, New York (1937 – 2008)

George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 - June 23, 2008) was a Grammy-winning American stand-up comedian, actor, and author.

Carlin is especially noted for his irreverent attitude and his observations on language, psychology, and religion along with many taboo subjects. In fact, Carlin and his “Seven Dirty Words” comedy routine were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5-4 decision by the justices affirmed the government’s right to regulate the public airwaves.

George Carlin’s latest stand up routines were primarily focused on attacking the flaws in modern-day America. He often took on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture.

He is considered by many to have been a successor to the late Lenny Bruce and was ranked by Comedy Central as the second greatest stand-up comedian of all time behind Richard Pryor.

Born in New York City, New York, George Carlin grew up on West 121st Street, in a neighborhood of Manhattan which he later said he and his friends called “White Harlem”, because that sounded a lot tougher than its real name, “Morningside Heights”. “General Grant was one of my neighbors,” he would say later. He was raised by his mother, who left his father when Carlin was two years old. At age 14, Carlin dropped out of Cardinal Hayes High School and later joined the United States Air Force, training as a radar technician. He was stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Agree he got better with age. His older stuff was mostly wordplay, while his later stuff told the brutal truth about the world.

i had no idea he is on Last Fm as an artist... was listening his last recorded performance and realised it scrobled the plays. I watched most of his work and in my opinion he was improving with age.. In delivery of the material especially. He often doesn't make me laugh as much as think about the issues he raises and i like it.

a bunch of his stuff was freeleech on what.cd o I grabbed it. Totally worth it, it's absolutely hysterical. and the great thing about it is, you don't have to be laughing to enjoy it, some of the things he says are just interesting to listen in themselves. the only bad side affect, is that after i listen to it, I think in a Carlin voice and have all sorts of sarcastic, smartass thoughts.

Check out part one of the 'Moon Man Vinners' serial, a surreal comedy about a man trapped in space...or is he? http://soundcloud.com/qcdqpodcast/moon-man-vinners-

George Carlin and mediocre definitely should never be in the same sentence. Ignorance and/or stupidity are the only reasons for a person to slight one of the greatest minds of our time. I too wish he never evolved and continued being a cute cooking-cutter mainstream comic who told jokes and was worried about just laughter; as opposed to making audiences actually think and telling them to question things. What a horrible thing to do, to change.

Видите ли, мой разум не так работает: у меня есть реальная идиотская фигня, которой я пользуюсь, называется «мышление». © George Carlin
