With the autumn gig season in full flow and with such a glut of events, it’s not surprising to find that some events are less well attended than others. Sadly this was the case for this gig and I’d guess that for Londoners, having to choose between The Musical Box
at Croydon on a Thursday night and the much less well known Italians of The Watch
, two days later, chose the former.
That’s not to say that The Watch
are a Genesis cover band because they are much more than that and their set comprised of a great deal of their own material. Whilst I have to admit that I had not heard any of their work before this evening, I was pleasantly surprised and found that their material retained the elements and feel of old, classic, ‘Gabriel-era’ Genesis, without sounding like too much of a ‘clone’.
Though Simone Rossetti still fronts the band, he was surrounded by a bunch of musicians who are all fairly recent additions to the band – though each of them were excellent players. …
