And no one cares, I'm lonely man
I touch your face and I don't know why
Call your name but you're going by

7 years later...I kinda like this little tune even if it's melodramatic and miserable.

I always thought that the song "Open Door" (one of the "oddball" tracks tacked on the 4th side of 3 Sides Live) was another take on the same theme...The guitar sound, and verse/chorus/verse is very similar. Just a simple, pretty guitar ballad from Mike Rutherford. Boring, perhaps - but way more tolerable than some of the stuff that the band was kicking out in the 90s

A beautiful melancholy song, but amusing at the same time because it is one of many fantastic pop songs Genesis wrote that irritate the Gabrielites to no end. Watching them squirm and moan about songs like this brighten my day. If you want to have some fun, say Invisible Touch is the best album Genesis ever did!, sit back, and enjoy the show.

I don't care what many of the Genesis purists say about their pop turn; I love Duke, and Alone Tonight is one of the big reasons why...though my favorite on that album is Duchess, but I digress.
