About this album

This is a greatest hits of Genesis Songs, with the “Carpet Crawlers 1999” added its the version where both Genesis Vocalists Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins sing the song together.

Third Lead Singer of Genesis Ray Wilson was initially asked about participating in the band’s remake of “Carpet Crawlers” in 1999. The initial concept was that Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and Ray Wilson would each sing a verse of the song; however, in the end, the band chose not to include Wilson and to stick with the popular early to mid-70s line-up of Genesis that originally recorded the song in 1974.

Peter never contributed nearly as much to the band as people like to think he did, so whether he could write good pop songs is largely irrelevant.

Good album, but I wish it had more Gabriel songs. But I guess that's why they call it "The Hits", because Gabriel didn't have many, they were too prog for mainstream then. People always say that when Collins took over, they turned into a pop band, but that simply isn't true. They were still a prog band - you can listen to any of their Collins albums - they just had a few beautifully written pop hits mixed in, which, in all his genious, Peter Gabriel could never do, at least for Genesis.
