Squonk (8:21)

Cover of Seconds Out

From Seconds Out and 30 other releases

The third track from the album ’ A Trick Of The Tail ’ written by Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, and based on a Pennsylvanian legend. It tells the tale of a hunter trying to capture a creature known as ’ Squonk ’ The hunter manges to trick him into his sack but at the end the Squonk dissolves into a pool of tears. This track was a staple part of the Genesis live experience for many years and was very popular amongst their fans. The album was their first since the departure of Peter Gabriel and gave Phil Collins his chance to take centre stage which he has successfully done till now.

All the King's horses and all the King's men could never put a smile on that face... Didn't really need a twisted quote in this song to make it good (well, it 's quite a good one actually), but that doesn't hinder either

Simply the best song of post-Gabriel Genesis. "Alive at both ends but a little dead in the middle..." so sad and lovely.

Saw then in the late 70s...working security for the concert. At that time...one of the best laser-light shows around! Their sound would go right through you.
