Biography

There are two bands named Gazpacho:

The first are a Norwegian band, who have been described by one critic as being “classical post ambient nocturnal atmospheric neo-progressive folk world rock” Gazpacho almost defies genre classification. Gazpacho were at one time described as “the greatest unsigned band in the world” by some critics. A tour of Europe as support for Marillion’s “Marbles” tour in 2003 radically raised their profile, earning the respect of audiences everywhere they played and garnering critical acclaim.

Without the backing of a major label, Gazpacho is one of many bands now utilising the resources of the internet to create word of mouth promotional opportunities, with a reliance on their website and its forum, online shopping, MySpace and other ‘net initiatives to spread the word. This allows the band to hold down full time jobs, yet still manage to release an album a year with total artistic control over their compositions and distribution.

Characterised by moody keyboards that evoke the work of Kevin Moore (Dream Theater, OSI, Chroma Key) or Richard Barbieri (Japan, Porcupine Tree), a stunning violin virtuoso (but not in the aggressive David Cross of King Crimson vein), a poignant and relevant rhythm section, ethereal guitars (closest comparisons are probably Steve Rothery of Marillion, Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree and Jon Thor Birgisson of Sigur Ros, Jan Henrik Ohme’s floating, pure Hypnotic voice (think David Sylvian of Japan meets Thom Yorke of Radiohead meets Steve Hogarth of latter day Marillion)and atmospheric contributions from samples, low whistle, tin whistle, banjo, accordion, didgeridoo and mandolin.

I'm fairly certain they re-recorded. They let their new drummer in on it, other new parts have been put in, lots of parts have been taken out or moved to another instrument, the timing of some parts has changed as well.

They didn't re-record it, but remaster it. Up to now they released almost every year a record or did go on tour. Or at least wrote something on their website...

Quiet... Well they released March of Ghosts not even a year ago and toured much of Europe. They re-recorded 'Night' in the latter half of the year and all of those people have jobs, you know. They jam in weekends and their days-off and tour whenever they can go "on holiday" at the same time. The violin player is like a civil engineer :D Yes, I DID a great chat with them at one of the Holland gigs last year :-) I'm sure they'll come back with a new album at the end of the year of 2014!

Just been listening to A Night at Loreley, and I forgot how awesome they are. So sad it's gotten so quite around them.

How is everyone getting on with the reworked Night album? Myself... I am enjoying it, but I almost feel like there's no need to mess with something as utterly perfect as Night :) Never mind buying new albums etc from Gazpacho though, I'll support them in any way I can!

I am convinced March of Ghosts is best album since Night. Also, Missa Atropos is highly underrated imo. it's a grower and when it grows, there's nothing like it
