Salt Lake City UT, United States (2004 – 2013)

Gaza was an band hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah that incorporated elements of , , and into their music. Formed in 2004 and signed to Black Market Activities, they have released 1 EP and 3 full-length albums. They were known for their complex and heavy sound, as well as their outspoken anti-religious and political views. On March 15th, 2013, Gaza announced that the band had ceased to exist.

At some moments, Gaza were nearly as overwhelming in their rage and misanthropy as Khanate or Today Is The Day, with all instruments (vocals included) howling out in mad agony at the world around them.

Of course, all artists respond to their environment, but this band was one of the lucky few that could express the abyss of human emotion through channels that an audience can respect for its eloquent musicality as much as its raw energy. Rather than relying solely on the traditional array of so-called heavy techniques – blastbeats, breakdowns, pinch harmonics, extreme dissonance, etc. – Gaza drew deeply from wells across the entire community to resourcefully come up with some tricks of their own.

Gaza shared members with Bird Eater.

2004: East EP
2006: I Don’t Care Where I Go When I Die
2009: He Is Never Coming Back
2012: No Absolutes in Human Suffering

Andddd this is where things get confusing for me. Bird Eater finally released their full length and it seems like Jon (ex-Gaza) is still on this along with some current mem(z?) of Cult Leader. Yet we look at the Cult Leader AND GAZAMUSIC facebook page and get some hints that Cult Leader members don't want anything to do with Jon anymore (the members section doesn't have Jon listed, their info section says "Now actually bull shit free.", and Cult Leader's says "We once were another band, and now we're a better one."). If anyone has any insider knowledge on all of this please shoot me a message. Gaza was one of my favorite bands and I really hate not knowing all the details.

Yeah Cult Leader does not really impress that much and I've listened to the Bird Eaters a couple of times and need to focus on them more in the future :)

Anyone bummed about GAZA breaking up, there is one final testament to that amazing sound. Bird Eater's newest album 'Dead Mothers Make The Sun Set' Jon kills it.

Cult Leader are on Spotify, and they are very good. They don't stray to far from Gaza.
