Formed in Leeds in February 2008, Gay Bum first came to be when Michael Pumo left the band Glasshouse Boutique. When Pumo started jamming in the basement of his house with drummer Sam Davis (under the name Gay Bum), it seemed too-lucky a coincidence that their other two housemates were guitar-player Phill Durham and “how hard can it be to play bass and make up some words” Edde Gamester. Hence the house formed a four-man rock act, intent on having as much fun as possible with their well-suited talents. Playing light-hearted rock to the city of Leeds - a city too familiar with whining modern bands mimicking one another’s pretentious moaning - the band instantly established themselves as “something genuinely different in a sea of monotony”.

Over the course of 2008, Gay Bum wrote a multitude of songs for debut album The Vagina Game; the seven most popular of which went on to form the demos Demonstration of Power and Bloodlust and Boobies.

After a brief break towards the end of 2008, Edde and Puma returned to Leeds in March 2009 to write a new album. However, attempting to move to one of the biggest student towns in the world in the middle of the academic year; they found almost nowhere to live that suited their minimal budget. Hence they were forced to settle for 6-bedroomed house on Cardigan Road - number 240.
