There is more than one artist by the name of Gary Peterson.

1) Gary Peterson is/was a member of The Guess Who.

2) Gary Peterson is a founder member of Shetland (British Isles) band Hom Bru, who have been playing together since 1978. The band currently consists of Gary Peterson (Banjo, Mandolin), Davie Henry (Mandolin, Vocals), Brian Nicholson (Guitar, Vocals) and John Robert Deyell (fiddle). They have played all over Europe. Peterson is a superb mandolinist with a mastery of the music of his native islands. The way he ornaments tunes is a joy to the ear and his use of short bursts of tremolo in place of the triplets others might use is especially distinctive and most impressive.

3.) Born in San Diego, California, Gary Peterson began his love affair with music at the tender age of 4, on the piano. He started formal piano lessons at age 6 and discovered and loved classical music by the time he was 10. At age 15, he got his first guitar and reveled in the freedom of improvisation.

In 1963, he went to Paris for the first time, where he started street singing with other musicians from the U.S. At age 21, he decided to become a professional musician. He enrolled at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he met and studied privately with Bill Mathieu. Gary returned to Europe after his studies and helped form the group “Formerly Fat Harry” with Bruce Barthol (former bass player for Country Joe & the Fish), Phil Greenburg, and Laurie Allan.
