About this album
This CD, recorded in 1998, was released on Burton’s label at the time, but all involved are considered co-leaders: Gary Burton (vibes), Pat Metheny (guitars), Chick Corea (piano), Dave Holland (bass), and Roy Haynes (drums).
There’s a lot of history behind this collaboration. It’s essentially Pat Metheny’s early 90s trio - Metheny, Holland, Haynes (check them out on the Pat Metheny CD, ” Question and Answer”) meets the famous duet team of Burton and Corea (“Crystal Silence,” etc.).
But the associations don’t stop there. Pat Metheny got his first big break in 1974 when Gary Burton invited him to join his band, one of the hottest and most innovative jazz groups of the period. Around the same time, Chick Corea and Dave Holland, who had previously played together with Miles Davis, worked together in the band Circle and the ARC trio. Corea would later from a highly-regarded trio featuring Roy Haynes on drums. And Roy Haynes had played in Gary Burton’s group in the 60s.
WTF NOTE: The version of “Question & Answer” linked here to the Like Minds recording is actually the live version from the 2009 “Quartet Live” album (Burton, Metheny, Steve Swallow, Antonio Sanchez).
Here are the composer credits:
Question And Answer - Metheny.
Elucidation - Metheny.
Windows - Corea.
Futures - Corea.
Like Minds - Burton.
Country Roads - Burton.
Tears Of Rain - Metheny.
