Mashup artist Rench has released a free album of “gangstagrass” music — hiphop mashed with bluegrass.

Introducing block rockin’ honky-tonk, New American music for the 21st century, built with love in a little studio, hand crafted, running on inspiration and imagination and duct tape, calling on the spirit of Gram Parsons and Otis Redding and KRS-ONE and Dolly Parton and Nina Simone and Willie Nelson and Missy Elliott and Johnny Cash , to write about what we feel and play what our hearts tell us, because to make it happen is reason enough, and to share it with the world is all the reason you need, because we tell the truth with music and the truth is beautiful.

According to :
“Gangstagrass (…) combines authentic bluegrass and rap into a new genre.”

The creation of "a new kind of music" is rare. bluegrass + rap? WTFF... but after hearing the result, we wonder why not sooner? because it needed the magical alchemy that we have here. I discovered with "Justified", and long after, I am still very impressed... and I'm not easily impressed :)

Okay. Rappalachia reminded me a great deal of The Groovegrass Boys which, though based on a possibly cool idea, really wasn't really that great. Rappalachia = Groovegrass X 2 Why would anyone think that doing something that had already been done, and acting like you had invented it, was a good idea? Oh. That's right. We're talking about Pop Music, aren't we?
