With all that blood flowing from the television.

We're nearing the end, and they finally get around to asking, "Hey, what if we had a revolution?" Their answer is less than optimistic, as those paying attention already guessed it would be. Contemporary society can make room for violent revolution only as a form of infotainment. Think of the stars we could make of fallen revolutionaries! Courageous, forward-thinking martyrs or treasonous rebels? Love or hate them, they'll pull in ratings. So yes, the revolution will be televised--and how! And listen to that freakout when the realization ("Guerrilla war struggle is the new entertainment!") sets in: the world ends with a bang, and not a whimper--though the bang is safely tucked away inside your TV. Gill's typical rigorous playing gives way to slashing, dissonant chords, while the drums pound out a primitive rhythm. Tightly wound white-boy funk finally turns into noise, if only just for the moment they contemplate armageddon.

Saw them on their reunion tour in Chicago @ the Metro, Jon King beat the holy hell out of a microwave onstage with a baseball bat. I could only imagine how amazing they would have been in the late 70's.
