Japan (2001 – present)

Galneryus is a Japanese Power Metal band formed in early 2001 by guitarist Syu and vocalist YAMA-B. They play material inspired by metal legends Dream Theater, Stratovarius, and X JAPAN.

The current members are Masatoshi “Sho” Ono (vocals), Syu (guitar), Taka who replaced Yu-To in 2009 (bass), YUHKI (keyboard) and JUNICHI (drums.) Veterans of the heavy metal scene, they set to work assembling a band. Syu, known as guitarist for the indie heavy metal bands VALKYR, Animetal and SPINALCORD, where he also served as lead vocalist, and vocalist YAMA-B, who worked with bands Gunbridge and REKION, originally were joined by keyboardist A (of Valkyr) and drummer Toshihiro Yui (Formerly of Honey Quest and Cemetary.) They soon were to recruit keyboardist Yuhki, of Ark Storm, and drummer Junichi Satoh. After Tsui left in 2006, they recruited yu-to of DELUHI. They were signed to VAP Records. Syu writes music for the band and contributed his deep, roaring vocals, while lead vocalist Yama-B contributes the songwriting, with lyrics and song titles in English. Galneryus has a dress style that borders on the style of visual kei, with medievally styled and leather dress, toting instruments with coloration to match, although recently they have set for a more casual style.

I found Yama-B's lyrics figurative and very interesting. Sho's English is more simple but I like his ideas.

''Sho lyrics are just awful for the most part'', Galneryus's lyrics are in general awful for most time imo. They are cheesy, not very inspirational at all. But i dont care about that. Its power metal. I dont expect high end poetry.

Paying attention to rhyme in lyrics is one of the most important techniques and aspects of writing songs,Sho is great and did a good job as a songwriter.I don't think Yama-b did well in writing lyrics except the subject of songs. It wasn't a neck-and-neck competition between Sho and Yama-b, he is far from Sho

Sho lyrics are just awful for the most part! It doesn't take any enjoyment out of the songs but yama-b knew how to fucking write songs! I still think Reincarnation was his best era though most would disagree. Some of the better songs that demonstrate his singing abilities would include; The Awakening, Everlasting, Wind of Change, Point of no return, season's cry, last new song, new legend, heavy curse, etc.

Live Yama-b has this weird, uncool voice imo. It doesnt sound ''heavy'' or ''cool'' anything. Sho doesnt have a heavy voice either (not grunting or anything), but at least it sounds 10x more pleasant.

LOL Yama-b sounds sharp, an unpleasant tinny voice,I'm curious, how many power metal fans would prefer his voice and performance to Sho's,as if they were fond of bands like Halloween or Rhapsody.

I fell in love with Sho when I saw him perform live, but I love Yama-B also.

Yama's voice is just amazing on Beyound the End of Despair. So much power and charisma. I have grown to like Sho also, but he comes nowhere near the awesomenes of that era's Yama-B.
