Japan (2001 – present)

Galneryus is a Japanese Power Metal band formed in early 2001 by guitarist Syu and vocalist YAMA-B. They play material inspired by metal legends Dream Theater, Stratovarius, and X Japan.

The current members are Masatoshi “Sho” Ono (vocals), Syu (guitar), Taka who replaced Yu-To in 2009 (bass), YUHKI (keyboard) and JUNICHI (drums.) Veterans of the heavy metal scene, they set to work assembling a band. Syu, known as guitarist for the indie heavy metal bands ValkyR, Animetal and SPINALCORD, where he also served as lead vocalist, and vocalist YAMA-B, who worked with bands Gunbridge and Rekion, originally were joined by keyboardist A (of Valkyr) and drummer Toshihiro Yui (Formerly of Honey Quest and Cemetary.) They soon were to recruit keyboardist Yuhki, of Ark Storm, and drummer Junichi Satoh. After Tsui left in 2006, they recruited yu-to of DELUHI. They were signed to VAP Records. Syu writes music for the band and contributed his deep, roaring vocals, while lead vocalist Yama-B contributes the songwriting, with lyrics and song titles in English. Galneryus has a dress style that borders on the style of visual kei, with medievally styled and leather dress, toting instruments with coloration to match, although recently they have set for a more casual style.

Yea though some people are having bad reaction at the moment, I expect in a year or two the consensus will be Vetelgyus = best album since Beyond the End of Despair. Its true I used to be a Yama-B fanboy but I like the new material in a different light.

Best SHO album in my honest opinion, and i've been a fan for a long time. The Guide is the best song on here, and the title track is a stupid good instrumental. Only songs I don't really like are the two ballads. Attitude To Life isn't too bad, though. I just love that there's a lot of energy this time around. More upbeat stuff and cooler melodies than anything I've heard from the bands since Sho joined.

HAHAHHAHAH,sounds like the whole thing is going nicely here, some neurotic yama-aholic has turn to the band lol.Anyway, since when I have quited my fanboy job,I hate people who show signs of extreme fanboyism himself, this is how they remind me of what I really used to

This album is full of chaotic and hard to follow arrangements. IMO that is what makes this album unique among Galneryus and makes me want to relisten, not as predictable.

Enemy to injustice has a chaotic arrangement indeed, the guitar solos are also kinda hard to follow. Still enjoyable though.

THERE’S NO ESCAPE,ULTIMATUM,SECRET LOVE rulez,The band plays mostly fusion material in SECRET LOVE..The intro of Endless Story reminds of Versailles(Versailles fans will recognize their compositional style here). The Guide is abusobloodylutely a tribute to Concerto Moon.I's very GALNERYUS.Enemy to Injustice & VETELGYUS,chaotic arrangements,i've been seeking some sort of connectedness between verse, chorus, solo, and the other thing in these songs.Even as a former Syu-aholic.I can't say this is a "great"album. But positive thinking.Syu has been developing Innovative Ideas for his music, attitude is the greatest ability even though that doesn't work this time.So next time for sure :)

"you might like the debut by the band Gauntlet" - unfortunately I don't. A friend of mine recommended it to me saying it's Galneryus No. 2782388 but it turned out to be a copy with no actual content.

Vetelgyus. Weaker album Sho-era so far. The formula is getting old. The Guide is a Rising Force "No mercy" cover. 4/10

Hmmmm appearantly this one can't be discussed and admired throughout the whole 2014 lol. How many people are looking for an ethereal and emotive masterpiece before this worst and oddest album released? My last expirience of ranking their music has turned out to have quite unexpected results.Best wishes Syu San.

Oh of course though enemy to injustice is the best track on the album. Actually one of the best best galneryus song in general. But still to me judgement day fits the bill of your usual galneryus finale songs. I would have switched I wish and judgement day on the track list. It would have given the album a more fitting end and gave that sense of an "epic track" where as you get the two most epic tracks in a row in the middle of the album and especially right before the 8 minute epic instrumental but thats just me

It is an excellent combo. I still think Enemy to Injustice is more epic, since besides the extended instrumental part of TJD I don't hear any drastic differences that make it more epic than the original version. Also @meatwolf and angeltearx, you might like the debut by the band Gauntlet. All tracks but one are speedy solo-fests in early Galneryus fashion, but the singer is no match for Sho.

    @tienxcore , I think Enemy to Injustice-Judgement Day-Vetelgyus is a great combo though.

@meatwolf skywings album was ok not digging the new singer. The guitar work is pretty average per usual but good melodies.

@VyseLegendaire: I absolutely don't, haha. Was, absolutely weak production, too many weird songs like T.F.F.B. or Bash Out!, ruined melodies in good tracks like Scars or Future Never Dies, broken solos etc. Buuut now I see it was much, much better than this one. Indeed I thought it was a cool record back in the day but it completely failed the time test and that was especially obvious when AoS arrived and showed the real class. P.S. Btw did anyone see the new Skywings around? It was released in July but still no leak, judging by the preview track it should be much better than Galneryus.

In fact, check the shoutbox around the time PR was released, you will see that pretty much everyone plus Meatwolf praised the album on all fronts. What happened since then? Perhaps time slowly revealed the shortcomings of the album. This might work in reverse for Vetelgyus's case, i.e. people will discover new qualities within the album with the passage of time. That is why I don't think first or second impressions are enough to write an album off.

The judgement day really is the "epic" of the album it should have been put at the end of the album it just doesn't flow well sitting smack dab in the middle since we are all so used to a galneryus album ending with the epic song.

@ Meatwolf - Phoenix Rising was bad? You smoking crack rocks brah! You guys think the guitar solos are worst? I think they're the most advanced solos Syu has done on any of his albums… Give it time people will end up loving this album, my first reaction was bad and I mean bad lol.

I think it's a great album. My least favorite songs are Endless Story and I Wish, but I think at least Endless Story has the potential to grow on me. The rest of the album is really good. Especially the new version of Judgement Day and the title track. In my opinion Judgement Day is better than Angel of Salvation and up there with Destiny. But still I have to admit that it's not as good as Resurrection (and AoS). My biggest complaint is what Angeltearx already mentioned. Most guitar solos are based on the chorus melody. The solos in general aren't as good as in previous albums (Sho era). But yeah like I said it's still an amazing album and perhaps the most interesting one .

I personally don't expect them to pull off a Destiny or Angel of Salvation on every album. But most of the songs themselves are strong; "Enemy to Injustice" could be a top 10 Galneryus song. Probably Endless Story and Judgement Day too. I like that everybody is in the spotlight throughout the album (especially Yuhki), rather than Syu stealing the show with solos, as is usually the case. It's been a week of listening though so it's too early to place the album within the discography, but I think it might be better than AoS.
