Biography

G3 is an almost annual live music show and concert tour featuring three select guitarists of the generation; hence its name. It was created by guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in 1996. Since its inception G3 has featured many guitarists including: Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Robert Fripp, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Adrian Legg, Paul Gilbert and many other special guests, including Steve Lukather, Steve Morse and drummer Mike Portnoy.

There are three official live releases of G3:

Live in Concert (1996)
Live In Denver (2003)
Live In Tokyo (2005)

For Live in Concert there were Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson
For Live in Denver - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen
For Live in Tokyo - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci

The 2007 G3 tour line-up lacked Steve Vai (because of his own solo World Tour), and instead consisted of Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, and John Petrucci.

G3 is also the name of an, already disbanded, Peruvian hardcore punk band.

G3 is also a Christian/Gospel group

    Buckethead is a very skilled guitarist, but I feel like he wouldn't fit in with Joe Satriani musically. I am sure he would be capable of doing it, but I feel like it'd be forced.

    LOL @ all the people below saying Buckethead sucks. He kills Vai and Satriani in a heartbeat and if you had any knowledge about his playing, I wouldn't have to tell you this. Also, there has to be Guthrie Govan [2]

    "Pierwsza trasa G3 (17 koncertów) była wydarzeniem bez precedensu, jako że nigdy wcześniej najlepsi gitarowi wirtuozi nie pojawiali się razem na scenie" - ... polecam trio Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola, John McLaughing (koncertowali w 1980 o ile się nie mylę)
