Biography

Gösta Berlings Saga is a progressive rock quartet hailing from Stockholm, Sweden. Their critically acclaimed debut album “Tid är ljud” was released worldwide in January 2006 by Transubstans records.

Their second album titled Detta Har Hänt was released worldwide on Transubstans Records in June 2009. The album was recorded during winter 08/09, partly assisted by Mattias Olsson of Änglagård and represents the evolvement the band has taken since the debut album. Whereas the previous album dealt with the interaction between nature and city, Detta Har Hänt focuses entirely on the latter with eight stories of industrialism and love.

Their third album, Glue Works, was released in May 2011 on Cuneiform Records.

Just discovered Gösta Berlings Saga and it's great stuff! It's been a while since an instrumental or prog band was able to surprise me AND keep my attention in the way you do! Excellent!

The setlist: 354, Sorterargatan 1-3 (yes, both of them, so they did play something from DHH), Icosahedron and Island. And yeah, the gig was great but way, way too short.

Nah, and it was only for like 40 minutes, which is not nearly enough. They only played 4 songs, all from Glue Works I think, which was great, but I wanted to hear some DHH as well. Still, great gig.

Great, great show. Shame they only played for an hour or so at Hornstull. I left after their set. They didn't play again, later on did they?

The compositions on Glue Works are simpler than on the two previous records. This isn't a bad thing though- Glue works is just more improvised and experimental . They certainly progress subtly with their sound from record to record, which is great. However Detta Har Hänt has to be their most dynamic and well-written record to date in my opinion.

"...though the last album had more of those first listen awesome guitar movements." [x2] Yeah, Glue Works lacked that. I did find GW enjoyable, but it was a bit boring compared to DHH. A bit aimless, too, it wasn't as focused as their last one.

I need to acquire Glue Works! Detta Har Hant and Tid ar Ljud are both amazing.

2nd that. Has everything I love this band for,... interestic rhythm layers, dark soundscapes, nice instrumentation (the symphonic stuff on some of the tracks works well). though the last album had more of those first listen awesome guitar movements to me (e.g. on Kontrast, Nattskift or Västerbron 05:30) I guess the sound as whole improved. definetely up there with Detta har hänt (which was awesome) , without recycling it. Next thing I want is a european tour to see all this stuff live :)
