Heralding your altered destiny, purveying a shifting paradigm beneath your very feet, Future Ape Tapes treads stealthily yet majestically across ruined hip hop and rock n’ roll, necromancing the remains of self-destructive indie rockers and turning them to freak rap mutations freestyling over any beat that moves, from psychedelic house and reggae to sampled Frank Zappa and Panda Bear.
The Architect, Jaxsone, Kid Kwame, Sir Hamlet, Tom Television, Paperboy, Das Kapital, Chosun 2G, Elan Vitale, The Board of Directors, Paperboy, and Mister Fear comprise a swat team of time traveling emcees each abducted from their sordid destinies as scientists, servers, artists, and hooligans, only to be brought back together into a schizophrenic super primate capable of crushing audiences for hours on end, switching from rap and dj sets to freestyle sessions built over improvised freakness.
Fuck the Future, the debut Double Phantom offering from Future Ape Tapes recalls that certain “crunk” feeling you got when you heard Del the Funky Homosapien or MF Doom for the first time, and then subsequently pawned your guitar for a sampler. Hot on the heels of the Future Apes comes the Wolf Pak, which takes beats born out of psychedelic studio jamming and combines them with gritty stream of consciousness narratives designed to cut through the malaise of current indie trends with calculated doses of street realness.
