1 Jan 2006 – De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Thin Air, los discipulos de otilia
To celebrate New Year's eve, this year I went to the "Warme nieuwjaarsnacht" in the Frisian Expo Centre in Leeuwarden. Started a few years ago to prevent young people who couldn't get into bars for New Year's parties from wrecking cars and so on, this free-entrance event involves live music, usually with at least one more or less well-known Dutch artist. Last year, it featured Spanner
, the new band of Syb van der Ploeg from De Kast
; this year, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig
, the latest Dutch mainstream hip-hop sensation, was present.
The event started off with some fireworks, and after that, we could enter the FEC, which is a really big hall (Domino D-Day is held here each year for one). It wasn't really crowded all night, and I felt slightly out of place between all the local 16-year-olds, but it was kind of fun.
