Forty (sometimes 40) Second Songs is Jonathan Mann playing and writing with a rotating group of songwriters and musicians. The project started in 2001 at Bennington College, where Will Stenberg (of the Kerosene Kondors ) and Jonathan wrote 40 forty second songs, recording each of them on to a hand held cassette recorder. Jonathan still has those original songs, somewhere.

In 2003, Jonathan teamed up with his friends Tom Wiehl and Catherine Herrick. Together, the three of them wrote and recorded 37 songs that would make up the album “37 Out Of 100”. In addition, Jonathan teamed up with filmmaker Patrick Davison, who directed 12 videos of songs from that album.

Throughout 2004 and 2005, Jonathan recorded songs for Songfight! under the name Forty Second Songs.
