The general name for the most well-known works of J.G. Thirlwell (aka Clint Ruin, Manorexia, Steroid Maximus & others), that are commonly, if simplistically, described as industrial. There have been many variations on the name across his 14 albums - the first Deaf (1981), under the name You’ve Got Foetus on Your Breath. Since the mid-90s, “main-project” releases (as opposed to projects like Manorexia) have simply used the name Foetus.
Other variations, on the name, include: Foetus Art Terrorism / F.A.T., Scraping Foetus off the Wheel, The Foetus All-Nude Revue, Foetus Eruptus, Foetus Uber Frisco / Foetus Over Frisco, Foetus Under Glass, Phillip And His Foetus Vibrations, Foetus Corruptus, Foetus Interruptus, Foetus in Excelsis Corruptus Deluxe, Foetus Inc. & The Foetus Symphony Orchestra.
Frenetically creative, and playing only by his own rules, Thirlwell has never stopped experimenting and evolving his sound. While his music is most often outside of any genre, it is most frequently described as Industrial or No-Wave. His music is usually quite harsh and distorted, with the notable exception of parts of the album Love, which is, in many ways, radically different from anything he has done before, using harpsichord, and what sometimes sounds like a full orchestra, but, as usual, is actually only J.G Thirlwell himself (with a few guest musicians on select tracks).

I think in away it's more of a return to his spazz-jazz early days, and the electro beats from the mid-80's and the noise rock of the late 80's / early 90's was the digression. It's obvious that from where Thirlwell says he's going with HIDE (and his past releases), he's moved on from the "Industrial" sound of his earlier works. I love where he's gone with FLOW and LOVE, but I suspect some grumpy Industrial fans will insist his "old stuff" is better. Personally, I think Jim is moving in great directions right now.
