Back in the days when Newport was famous for fighting and everyone was skipping about to Brit Pop (a lethal combination, I’m sure you’ll agree) Flyscreen were the big kids in the playground - harder, louder and angrier than anyone else without stealing your dinner money. Together with 60ft Dolls, Dub War and Novocaine they created their own particular brand of post-grunge mayhem – a punk-pop cocktail of thrashing guitars with pithy, often witty songs about school, football and shagging.

Following the release of two exceptional mini- albums ‘Dap Bag’ and ‘Council Pop’ via Southern Records, Flyscreen were snapped up by the grande fromages’ at MCA/Universal, touring with the likes of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Bush, No-Doubt, The Offspring, and Girls Against Boys, being tipped by the trendy haircuts in the music press and generally lording it about town. The releases came thick and fast and the band won much eulogising and even got a mention by Paul Flynn MP in Parliament.

It all imploded of course, like all good things rock and roll, but thankfully the Newport punkerteers came back with ‘Only Dirty People Wash’, 26 minutes of downright filth and their first studio album since ‘Girls Can’t Make Gun Noises’ in 1998.

So, after 15 years of noise, nostalgia and nonsence, Flyscreen release ‘Home Taping Is Killing Music’ through DaGroovie Recordings. 22 stonking tunes that document the bands journey so far. From the glam-rock stomping ‘Popsong Singalong’, the orchestral slickness of ‘Sugarstealers’ to the punk-rock punch of ‘Charlie George on Super 8’.
