Breaking Down (3:49)

Cover of Ceremonials

From Ceremonials and 1 other release

The Breaking Down Songfacts says: Florence Welch, the frontwoman and primary contributor to Florence and the Machine, wrote much of her debut album, Lungs, about breaking up with her long term boyfriend, Stuart Hammond. The pair later patched things up and got back together but they eventually spilt up again. “Breaking Down”, which evokes both mental fragility and childhood fears was inspired by the ending of their relationship for a second time.

My ex-girlfriend loves Florence a lot, and because of her, I started to like her too. I fell in love especially with this song and I have been listening to it every day. But yesterday we broke up with my girl forever... and every time I listen to this, I'll remember her.

@strom-z the real thing is that this is not her best song at all, and it's because it trows a fake power in our faces, but it doesn't work because we know this is weak, her layered choirs and the drums are useless in this...her accoustic versions of this are much better, i believe that Florence was scared to put this song in a harp solo song mostly because it would totaly break her "one- big-churchial-ceremonial-mood" album...anyway still this is great and otherwordly.

I've heard this melody in another song before. It's not the first time that I get this feeling when listening to Florence + The Machine.

Yes, this is the most Bowie-esque song on the album.

This video has NOTHING to do with the song! Do they just take random stock clips and play it to music? WTF Vevo?!
