Biography

Rockabilly duo Dexter Romweber and drummer Crow came together in Carrboro, North Carolina (right next door to Chapel Hill) though they made Athens their base for a short amount of time. This how in the 1986 documentary on Athens GA Inside/Out they first came to exposure outside of their touring base. They had a small cassette issued in 1984 but they did not officially issue their first album a self-titled debut until 1990. In 1990 they toured with the Cramps and even made an appearance on the David Letterman show. The Flat Duo Jets followed this up with another critically acclaimed record Go Go Harlem Baby. They released a few albums after that and eventually signed to a major label Outpust in 1998 and released Lucky Eye thereafter.

I got White Trees. I like it, Some songs remind me of Johnny Cash and Crow's song "Where Are You Now" Has a wonderful haunting sound with the "In a well" Vocal sound.

@Ari-es: Sorry, I don't know where to find a longer video of it. I asked for Safari and White Trees for Christmas, I'm looking forward to them.

For anyone who uses Spotify, the albums Two Headed Cow, Wild Blue Yonder and Red Tango are also on there, as well as the song "The Phantom," which is a Sam Sham & the Pharoahs song.

I don't know if they ever released a studio version. I looked through their discography a bit, If there was ever a soundtrack to the Athens GA:Inside Out documentary you MIGHT have luck. Other than that you'll just have to rip the sound from the film.

Two albums is not enough to satisfy my interest in the Flat Duo Jets. I am going to order a copy of In Stereo. Also, its not often when I see a band like this, A band who genuinely like/liked what they did. The Dukes Of Stratosphear did it, The B-52's may have done it for the first album or two, Pylon may have done it (Notice how The B-52's and Pylon were also local to Athens, GA? Athens had something cool going on in the 80s!) And The Presidents of the Untied States of America may do it too. The Presidents are rather casual even now, They seem to do it for the love/fun of it. They don't tour like mad.

I just got two of their albums and am only two and a half or so songs in on the Two Headed Cow CD. I think its safe to say I'll be buying more of their music.
