• Meme - 50 questions about my top 50

    26 May 2008, 18:10 by jesstherese

I borrowed this from this user.. thanks! Instead of using my overall top 50, I used my rolling 3 month chart top 50, and had lots of ties so there's a little poetic licence employed.

    1. How did you get into 29?
I remember seeing my sister's copy of Green on vinyl, Man on the Moon, and later on Losing My Religion was a favourite amongst my friends. Monster was the first album I owned, and I loved New Adventures in Hi-Fi - still do. I just bought Accelerate.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
    Cansei de Ser Sexy
Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above - their first single released in NZ.

    3. What’s your favorite lyric by 33?
I don't know - for me Muse is more about the epic drama expressed through the music, than anything in particular in the lyrics.

    4. What is your favorite album by 49?
    Cat Power
Since I only have one - The Greatest.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
  • Mrs. Badcrumble's Sexy Tunes

I was reading a thread this morning titled "Songs That Sex You Up."

The song that was going through my head as I was reading the thread? Whaling, by Dave Dobbyn.

Before you start thinking I'm really weird, I woke up with the song going through my head. It wasn't the thread title that made me think of it. Promise!

For what it's worth, Flash Harry and Monster Magnet songs have been some of my picks for songs that sex you up.

  • Mainstream Percentage

    29 Jul 2006, 19:25 by indigo_jones

Go through your top 10 artists and add up the total number of listeners. Then compute the average and divide the average by the number of Radiohead fans (Radiohead is the artist with the most listeners). That is your "mainstream percentage".

My mainstream ranking is 3%, which isn't surprising, since half my top ten doesn't even have triple digits when it comes to listeners, and one only has three listeners. That said, they're all freakin' brilliant and deserve to be mainstream!

    Flight of the Conchords 1484
    Age Pryor 66
    Fly My Pretties 245
    Tess & Adrian 3
    The Phoenix Foundation 594
    The Video Kid 54
    Flash Harry 71
    The Black Seeds 574
    Module* 71
    Tom Waits 84,982

    Total: 88,144
    Average: 8,814
    Radiohead listeners: 316,082
    Percentage: .027886 (3%)

Shuffle up the playlist and see what it says ...

How does the world see me?
    Song: Wicked Pussycat
    Artist: Danzig
    My Comments:

Will I have a happy life?
    Song: California
    Artist: Rufus Wainwright
My Comments: I'll have a happy life if I don't move to Cali, right?

What do my friends really think of me?
    Song: CCTV
    Artist: The Video Kid
My Comments: Hmmm. Either they're watching me at all times, or they see me as funky and free. What was that about stalking?

Do people secretly lust after me?
    Song: Wild Flower
    Artist: The Cult
My Comments: Does this mean they pick me or they ignore me because I'm out in the wilds?

How can I make myself happy?
    Song: Merchants of Soul
    Artist: Spoon
My Comments: So I should give the devil some competition and go into the soul business?

What should I do with my life?
Song: Shot in the Dark-Peter Gunn
    Artist: Chris Mancini and Lennart
My Comments: Gun for hire! I always was a good shot.
