Based on the last.fm description of the event, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad was to play, so I went and got a bunch of their live stuff from archive.org. They sound pretty good, so I was psyched to see 'em, but for whatever reason, they were off the bill.
There was a pretty good reggae opener (I have no idea who they were. I assume they were local...?) and then a band called US Pipe. I wasn't too into them, to be honest. With the way they used the brass section and the male/female vocals... they seemed too... adult-oriented for me. I don't know how else to describe it.
The Cervantes ballroom looks like a nice place to see gigs. I hadn't been there before... unfortunately, that night was not a packed house. Fishbone definitely deserves better. I estimate that the show topped out at 75 people. 75 grateful people. There was much dancing going on.
I can't believe that I first saw the 'bone in like '88. Almost 20 years ago. …
