Biography

In late 2004, Tobias Weinreich (Bass), Sebastian Scherrer (Keyboards), Marco Schomas (Vocals) and Simon Schillinger (Guitar) founded Finsterforst.

They were still seeking more members however, so instead concentrated purely on songwriting. As a result, they created many songs without being able to perform them until later on.

In spring 2005 the band decided to introduce an accordion player (Johannes Joseph) into the mix, a choice which has helped to shape their unique sound. Later, in May of the same year, the band finally began to practice their songs; but still lacked both a drummer and a rhythm guitarist.

In October 2005, the rhythm guitarist David Schuldis became a part of Finsterforst. The band then entered the studios two months later to record their a 3 track EP, “Wiege der Finsternis.”

After signing to Worldchaos Production in December 2006, they released their first LP “Weltenkraft” in July 2007.

Chorals remind me Bathory - Blood on Ice. I am not big fan of acordion sound, but still, great album

Rastlos is the best folk metal album I've heard since To The Nameless Dead.

Love this band <3. Can't wait to see them at Wacken 2013! My favourite song is probably Schatten Der Natch!

I realize they're essential, just having a vision in which they're missing :) Rastlos is my favourite one, more or less surprisingly.

Rastlos grows on you. Certain moments are superb, yet still not as energetic and captivating as the Weltenkraft era, I agree. Accordion and flute (even if keyboarded) is essential to their sound!

Folk metal version of Raventale... I'd love to hear those epic tracks without the folk instruments, which are sadly distracting my favourite mood in metal. These guys would make a monumental atmospheric black metal music.

The new album does not really appeal to me. It sounds really good, but evolved much into 'wagner metal', what is hackneyed and recycled stuff imho. The clean vocals affected as hell, Menhir at their worst. I prefer 'Weltenkraft' times with their higly energetic, diverse guitar work and sublime atmosphere at the same time. It's the matter of taste, but maybe next album will be more balanced, I'd like to hear some metal riffs in those soundscapes.

Die Band ist zu gross fuer ihr Format. Meine Herren. Voellig undenkbar in Deutschland.

I'm noticing a split between the raw intensity of their popular EP (my favorite as well!) and their newer (Zum Tode Hin and Rastlos) sweeping songcrafting. I hold no slight to their new style, but I hope they can keep bringing that high energy (Schatten der Nacht!!!!) along with a maturity in writing. Their choir vocals are superb (see Rastlos), I wouldn't complain if they sang each song as a group, but there's a tendency to get overwrought (altogether) in search for a large scale. They haven't failed yet. But maybe they'll decide to make a habit to out an occasional boisterous folk song (Försterhochzeit!!) in between concept albums to keep me satisfied. I call for Moare accordion!!

Die Power ist doch noch da. Alles in ziemlich orchestraler Form.
