• Top 80 Trance Songs (2000-2008)

    11 Feb 2009, 22:43 by RoverTheOctopus

Cutting to the chase, these are what I consider the greatest trance songs of this decade, up until the end of 2008. Once 2009 starts to take form (and there are quite a few songs out now that are promising), I'll update the list. So anyone curious about what trance music is all about should definitely check out these songs. That is basically the gist of this tower of artist and song names. Of course, while this project was done very subjectively, I do find that most of the songs are those that have achieved stellar appeal inside the music world. Though in the spirit of personal opinion, several of my "favorite" songs may or may not be in this list, so believe me that coming up with this list was not done in a few snappy minutes. I compiled this list over the course of several days after playing old tracks, researching songs that I may not have heard before, all to gain perspective and to sift out the songs that didn't make the cut. …

  • THE TRANCE JOURNAL - PART 2 - THE BIG COUNTDOWN

THE TRANCE JOURNAL - (PART 2)
THE BIG COUNTDOWN - MY 150 GREATEST TRANCE TUNES (92-07)

Ok, so let's imagine someone new to trance, the type of person I euphemistically describe as the "outsider", has stumbled across PART 1 of this trance journal. They may now understand a bit better how trance works. Hopefully, it's dispelled a few myths. They may even be interested in giving the genre a try. But where the hell do you begin? While the concept is growing year on year within trance, the genre itself is not really based around the idea of the "artist album", so it's not just a case of getting a list of "reputable" trance producers and downloading their albums. Nor do I think it's enough to get one of the countless "best of" compilations that are released year on year as, despite the obvious stuff, they'll probably be missing material that has never entered the mainstream or been picked up on by the larger, compilation pushing labels. …
  • SCOOTER – THE GREAT Q&A

    SCOOTER – THE GREAT Q&A

It would be so clichéd of me to start this entry by saying how Scooter divide opinion more than any other act in electronic music, but I will end up doing it anyway. They do divide opinion and do so on almost every music related issue. Scooter’s music, their rollercoaster careers, the band member changes, their marketing and their general decision making can all be interpreted in so many different ways. Being an act that has survived in name since 1993, you could debate about Scooter until you are blue in the face. And being as opinions and interpretations are so divided, so polarised, it is indeed easy to argue about them until you are blue in the face. Discussions about Scooter bring up so many interesting and important issues that are relevant to absolutely any band, whatever genre they are from. Marketing, fanaticism, emotional connection, creativity, originality, cashing in, selling out, following trends, talent, covering, sampling ... and the list goes on (if you’ll pardon the Scooter pun). …

  • 10 best damn Trance songs ever

    6 Aug 2006, 22:58 by Xoliul

I figured I could write this, my personal trance top 10
Bottom to top, I'll give an opinion on each entry

    10. Fictivision Vs C-Quence - Symbols (Original mix)
This is the song that started it for me about 3 years ago. I was listening to the radio, and during this song I noticed how my thoughts were drifting to the sound of the music. That's when I first became aware of the music that is trance and how the sound gets to me. A long journey started after identifying this one (I even asked the radio host personally for the title which I didn't catch back then). Nowadays I've grown a bit tired of it, and it sounds a bit outdated compared to my biggest favorites, but it still has a special place for me.

    9. Rank 1 - Awakening
This song just starts up, grabbing you right away with it's throbbing base and starts speeding faster & harder towards the breakup. A very good example of a great Trance buildup. I don't care that it is considered super cheesy Dutch trance /Supersaw trance…
