Biography

Felpeyu creates powerful music that springs from Asturian folcloric roots and from its members’ inspiration, and takes it into stage making audiences stand up and dance to it. They create new lyrics for ancient tunes, compose new music for traditional lyrics or arrange instrumental sets that are both energic and subtle. With three albums up to this date (“Felpeyu”, “Tierra” and “Yá!”), Felpeyu has completely renewed its repertoire this year and is currently working in a new album, to be recorded in November. The band has toured extensively in Spain, France, Portugal, Australia, Italy, Scandinavia, Canada, Poland, Lebanon…

Felpeyu’s musical approach rests upon a solid rythm section - bouzouki, bass and bodhran. The melodic instruments - box, fiddle, wooden flute and asturian bagpipes or gaita - are played by three musicians well learned on Asturian musical traditions. From Australian Womadelaide to the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, and from Montreal Festival to Barcelona, audiences are riveted and enjoy an unstoppable dance groove. Felpeyu es un grupo de música folk de Asturias y una de las grandes referencias en la música asturiana.

Fue fundado en 1991 en Salamanca, donde estudiaban Bellas Artes sus miembros fundacionales Ígor Medio y Ruma Barbero, junto a los hermanos gallegos Cástor y Félix Castro. Desde entonces, desarrollaron su carrera musical con gran número de actuaciones por España, Europa y Australia.
