(1985 – 1986)
Kurt Cobain, of Nirvana, and Dale Crover, of Melvins, formed the band Fecal Matter in 1985, later joined in 1986 by Melvins’ Buzz Osborne on bass (played by Crover on the demo). Though it was short-lived, this band made a demo tape. Crover said he was leaving the band to work more with Melvins (already formed). Only one set of recordings was actually ever put out by this band, the ‘Illiteracy Will Prevail’ demo, consisting of 15 known songs.
Only one song has been officially released, which was the track ‘Spank Thru’ on Nirvana’s compilation “Sliver - The Best Of The Box”, however “Downer” was later recorded in a faster tempo by Nirvana and appeared on issues of their debut “Bleach” after 1992.
2. Οι “Fecal Matter” ξεκίνησαν την πορεία τους το 1996 στη Λαμία από τους Φώτη Σταμέλο στη φωνή, Αποστόλη Γκούρλια στην κιθάρα και Κώστα Καραγιάννη στα τύμπανα. Το ‘96 κυκλοφόρησε το πρώτο τους demo με τίτλο “Χάος” το οποίο ηχογραφήθηκε στο τετρακάναλο του Τέλη Καυκά, ο οποίος έπαιξε και το μπάσο. Τον Ιούλιο του ‘97, δώσαν το πρώτο τους live στο Ισαδάκι της Λαμίας μαζί με τους “Tsopana Rave”, σε μια πολύ ξεχωριστή στιγμή για το συγκρότημα. Τις υπηρεσίες του στο μπάσο εκείνη την περίοδο, προσέφερε ο Τόλης Πολύμερος. Τα επόμενα χρόνια, οι “Fecal Matter” συνέχιζαν να γράφουν τραγούδια και να παίζουν, αλλά λόγω δύσκολων καταστάσεων όπως η στρατιωτική θητεία τους, μένανε στην αφάνεια.

You can get a "copy" of Illiteracy Will Prevail there: http://bitsy.me/fm_iwp It has the seven songs from the tape remastered by JWB, and the other eight songs as well. Some are barely enjoyable due to their poor quality sources but the ones from the tape are ok.
