Krautrock (7:32)

Cover of Faust 4

From Faust 4 and 2 other releases

” was a joke phrase based on an ethnic slur that was used by the British press as an umbrella term refering to the new and wildly diverse experimental music coming from Germany and that later became treated as a genre, which many of the bands tried to distance themselves from. Faust were later quoted as saying “… when the English people started talking about Krautrock, we thought they were just taking the piss… and when you hear the so-called ‘Krautrock renaissance’, it makes me think everything we did was for nothing.” This track should probably be taken in that context.

@The_Vein - you simultaneously managed to miss the point of my post (which, to be fair, is a reply to a post that's been deleted) and managed to throw out a hollow insult for no good reason. good show!!!

best trip with a song without drugs since my last half-sleep with "A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding In Your Mind-Volume 2" ----------- and @clutnuckle: you're a hipster by definiton. who gives a fuck if its drone or not by your definiton?

Great, great! I just listened to this straight after Hallogallo (Neu! masterpiece), and it's amazing what you can achieve with a more-or-less monotonous beat, one chord and some pissing about with electric guitars. Especially, it would seem, if you were German and it was the 1970's.

Doesn't really matter if this song is 'texture-based', it's still a drone (by definition, might I add). It also doesn't particularly matter how many of these "hipster(s) and (their) Jesu albums" run amok, because it doesn't change set definitions of words (ie. 'drone')

All punks, at least the ones from the early years, were progheads.

I've just been struck by a similarity between this and the Pistols. It's the guitar sound, it's not the same but it gets in your head in the same way and stays there after the track has ended. I remember wandering around north London stoned in 77 after hearing the Pistols album and that guitar sound just would not stop in my head, something pure and hypnotic about it, same way as on this Faust track. And doesn't this one just take right off when the drums finally come in around the 7 minute mark. Two's up!!!!

Bloody marvellous. Now if I could just get my hands on the Faust Tapes again, y'know, the one with the Bridget Reilly cover art....
