Fata ‘el Moustache’ Morgana plays an explosive mix of disco, punk, electro, rock and funk, carrying an important role for a cheap organ, brand ‘Orla’. Onstage the band delivers infamously energetic live shows, in invariably steaming halls. After two EP’s, an album – release September 2011 – is the next step: 13 songs make for a thrilling, slightly schizophrenic whole; with the balls of punk and the moves of disco.
Fata ‘el Moustache’ Morgana was founded in 2004 without a clear plan, idea or direction. Its five members are playing together ever since. With the release of their two well received EPs (2008 and 2010) the activities were intensified: in the meantime they’re often infesting multiple stages a month.
In its hometown Amsterdam the band holds a strong live reputation and loyal fan base. The C called their show ‘surprisingly refreshing.’ LiveXS described the second EP as ‘an exciting disc, effortlessly combining the experimental with the accessible’ and NL20 called their tri-monthly club night Soirée Poirée ‘promising for a revival of the dull Amsterdam night.’
Fata ‘el Moustache’ Morgana doesn’t care for genres, concepts, expectations and splitting hairs. They won’t play at ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ (unless they’re asked to do so). Virtuosity is something of the seventies, shoegazing for hipsters in tight pants and vintage synths are for nerds in attics.
Fata ‘el Moustache’ Morgana returns rock ‘n roll to where it belong: in dark, clammy halls, dancing till the drops fall of the ceiling. Material damage and physical injury are not shunned, but Fata ‘el Moustache’ Morgana doesn’t quibble; they wouldn’t know how.
