Seattle, Washington, United States (1991 – present)

Faith & Disease is an band from Seattle, Washington, United States, formed in 1991. The founders and main members of the band are vocalist Dara Rosenwasser and guitarist / songwriter Eric Cooley.
Their often melancholy sound has been compared to early 4AD artists like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and This Mortal Coil, but they have also been influenced by Mazzy Star, The Cure (who they have covered), and The Velvet Underground, among others.

Their debut album “Beauty and Bitterness” was released in 1993 on local Seattle indie label, Ivy Records. It was followed by “Fortune His Sleep” (1995) and “Insularia” (1998). They also released a collection of live concert recordings, “Live Songs: Third Body”, in 1996. After this, they signed with the larger Projekt label and released “Beneath the Trees,” followed by “Dream the Red Clouds” EP, a collaboration with ambient artist Jeff Greinke. Their most recent release is “Passport to Kunming” in 2003.

Are these guys any good? If I like Lycia (Drifting, Baltica) and Trance to the sun (Atricious virgin) will I like them - if so, recommend an album that is similar?

I love "Born and Died on the 23rd". It reminds me of "I Saw You Fall" by Amber Asylum. I guess it just brings to mind the mourning traditions of a deceased child during the late 1800s-early 1900s (I'm a weird, weird girl for having this image in my mind while listening to music, but hey).

  • uzpurne should make a feature of voting down tags so people with brains can get rid of the pestilence of "deathrock" tags on everything at least vaguely dark. BTW, very very very neat band.: )

Yeah, if i want a band that sounds like the Cocteau Twins I'll listen to the Cocteau Twins. Faith & Disease have their own unique sound and I love it :)
