Fairlight Children

The band name was inspired by the vintage digital synthesizer Fairlight CMI, considered by many to be the quintessential sound of the 1980s. Another nod goes to the Fairlight computer scene group that produced demos on the Commodore 64 computer (and also took its name from the synth). The distinctive sound of the C-64’s SID chip, already found on APB tracks as “64k” and “APB Goes C-64”, has an even stronger influence on the music of Fairlight Children.
The group’s first album, 808 bit, was released in March 2004. The original cover art listed two of the songs in wrong order — this was corrected for subsequent batches. The album title is a pun on the Roland TR-808 (a classic analog drum machine) and 8-bit (the machine architecture of the Commodore 64 and other early home computers).
