after reading the consensus that Comfort was inferior to the other failure albums, i was surprised to find that it's still a really good record with some great, hooky songs. Also, hearing Failure (who i love) bathed in the Albini (whose work I generally adore) sound is a novel pleasure.

I think this album doesn't get a fair shake. Sure, one could argue that it leaves a little to be desired in the production department but the material and performances are solid. There is a certain rawness & unrefined quality to the recordings & material that is uniquely Failure but which isn't present on their subsequent material. In fact, I know I'm not gonna win any points w/ Failure fans by saying this but I feel this album aged much better than Fantastic Planet. Sure, FP is a superior record as far as production values go, but I listen to this (and Magnified as well) way more than FP some 15-20 years later. So there is definitely something here that captures something a bit more timeless.

I think the roughness is part of why it's great. In contrast to the super-refined-auto-tuned-enhanced-till-heaven-come music of today.

A few okay tracks but not as good as Fantastic Planet. That's one creepy looking kid on this cover. Is it a boy or a girl?

A really rough album, but worth a listen nonetheless
