FOLJA is the music alter ego of visual artist Konrad Zduniak, based in Warsaw, Poland.
The name is a phonetic pronunciation of the word ‘folia’, meaning ‘foil’ in polish language. It refers to the feeling of being transparent and invisible for people who individuals fall in love with.
Project was founded in 2009, when the artist started collecting sounds from around the Internet and mixing them together with own compositions.
Originally, project was named Pyramids and Stars as a result of the online matching game in which the name of the band is a headline of a random Wikipedia article, the name of the album is the last four words from the last quote at quotationspage.com and the album cover is chosen from recent images uploded to Flickr.
Self-released EP, Pyramids and Stars and Our Bodies Together, with handmade artwork, was sent and placed in seven different locations, before the material became available online.
First full debut album, entitled Pompa Funebris, was a launching record for Sangoplasmo records, the publisher pioneering in releasing music on cassettes in Poland.
