Mike Krauss

Michael Krauss started producing music years ago with his beloved amiga, terrorizing mostly himself with noisy gabba tracks. after buying a pentium machine in winter 1996 he gave his project the name f a v (stands for fucking and vomiting) and started adding vocals to his songs. f a v’s music is influenced by all the styles michael likes, such as industrial, noise, punk, electric body music, drum’n’bass, breakbeat and even some sorts of jazz. some of the bands that have an influence on his output are einstürzende neubauten, nine inch nails, wumpscut, ea80, mentallo & the fixer, winterkälte, prodigy and lard. resulting from this, f a v’s tracks are groovy, noisy, intense and some kind of sick.

In 1998 f a v recorded his first album, titled “miscellaneous”, and burned some copies on cd-r. having more luck than he deserves, michael met karl, mastermind of b-ton-k, who was about to start a label and liked the tracks. “miscellaneous” was released in march 1999 on daham recordings and was distributed by novatekk (r.i.p.).

immediatelly after this release, he started working on some remixes and new tracks. in august/september 2000 enough tracks for a new album were finished, rudy r. heard them and released it under the name “feinde auf valium” on his label mental ulcer forges in february 2001. that’s the story so far.

yeah he mentioned something along the lines back then. on his myspace site he's basically telling that he's djing and organizing parties and that he's still making music. however he says he used to make it under the moniker f/a/v and now uses the moniker "verbraucher" (meaning user/enduser) as well as playing drums in a punk band called "Pferd des Gärtners" (horse of the gardener).

I wouldn't be able to quote anything he's written verbatim, but I think it was clear he was losing interest in F/A/V particularly back in 2003 or whenever, although at the time at least it sounded like he was thinking of directing his attention toward making other kinds of music; the remixes he did for Wumpscut's Bone Peeler were supposed to reflect his new style. Could you approximate what he's saying in English?

  • hellc9943 that's his myspace site. Sounds like f/a/v as a project is dead.

the samples are sooooo geniusly cut out of german tv program. and yes a bit electro-punk the rhythm is very pogo to some songs otherwise its very dark gothic and electro noise. best song i think is "von der gemeinsamkeit (kybernaughty remix)" on Feinde of valium .. it had set a joyride to dark electro/goth experiences five years ago. sooo.. if anyone knows what micheal krauss is projecting today please shout me. enjoy the differnce

The older his music gets, the clearer it appears that this is easily and by far the best and most outstanding artist that came out of this genre in the last decade. Ah fuck it, he's in a genre and league of his own. From the brilliant lyrics to the artwork, the selection of samples and let's not forget the music, f/a/v is a gesamtkunstwerk.
