Excalion was born in December 2000 in Konnevesi, central Finland. Keyboard player Jarmo Jappe Myllyvirta had written some melodic power metal-style songs and began looking for a group to play his ideas aloud. So it happened that four people gathered in a tiny rehearsal room: Jappe, drummer Henri Pirkkalainen, bassist Timo Sahlberg and guitarist Tero Vaaja. After some playing, some chatting and some playing again, those four people realized that they had a band. For reasons that have partly escaped everyone, the band was named Excalion.

The next obvious task was to find someone to sing the songs. Solution was near. Jarmo Pkknen was a guy known of his big voice; Jarmos former band had recently split up, so he was available to join the band. In winter 2001 the band made a bold attempt to record some of their songs in rehearsal conditions; vocals and four instruments were present, but not much else than drums and keyboards are actually audible on the tape. The only really relevant thing about this recording was the song Sinners Symphony, which was occasionally in the live set for several years. The tape also featured songs called Call of the Earth and Wintertime, whose lifespan was only a couple of live gigs. The first ever rehearsed and played Excalion song, Insomnia, didnt make it for any kind of recording whatsoever, which is very fortunate for everyone.

Excalion played its first gig ever in spring 2001 at Tyventalo, Konnevesi.

ANY music artist, that doesn't offer at least a couple streamable tracks, is out of touch with their fan base : ( What if I live in country with heavy restrictions and only have access to a globally licensed music site, such as LastFM? I cannot access iTunes or Amazon or Spotify. Only have Lastfm! Where are my samples? Where is the show of appreciation? Where is the humility from the band?

Well ~ Well ~ Well.....What else can I say here !! ???...other than this :- You go on the hunt..on this site...for bands that you "dont know"....of which you find many !!!.....some look good....but end up dissapointing,,,,but it can also go the other way..and often does,,where you end up with a right good result...and you hit gold...and this a good example indeed.....yes I have found yet another one !!...another truly brilliant band.....a real good looking band..and a great sounding one :) far, I have only played "Waterlines"...which I am VERY IMPRESSED with...:)

Hey, these guys are actually good. Better than I expected. Listening to Wingman on YouTube after a few of their other songs, damn it's catchy. Reminds me of early Sonata Arctica.

High Time is the best melodic metal release since Waterlines! (Vendetta from Celesty doesn't come far behind though...) Excalion is coming very close to be my no.1 band from now on. :) Especially Lifetime is a track close to perfection in every way! :P
