Singer-songwriter Evan Watson was born on May 30, 1985, and grew up in Crawfordsville, Indiana. His father teaches at Wabash College and his mother, a trained actor, also works at the College in outreach programs and in Admissions. His brother is an anthropologist. Evan’s early music education was largely informal with lessons in piano, the trumpet, and the instrument he embraces with serious passion, the guitar. His love for the guitar was shaped by his intense study of guitar legends B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. Today, he performs with at least one guitar that he personally rebuilt, a 1979 Strat. In 2007, Evan graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio with departmental honors in philosophy and a minor in religious studies. A celebrated college football athlete, Evan received first team ESPN All-American consideration, two-time Defensive Player of the Year awards from the College of Wooster Fighting Scots, and three-time All-Conference recognition. Throughout his college career, including a semester at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, Evan performed as a singer-guitarist, while developing his talent as a songwriter. Though his admirers were small in number at the time, one member of that group was fellow Wooster student, Christina, who introduced Evan to her uncle New York producer, musician, and BMI award-winning songwriter, Peter Zizzo. Peter Zizzo has authored songs for Celine Dion, O.A.R, Jennifer Lopez, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, among others, and was instrumental in developing the careers of several artists, including Avril Lavinge and Vanessa Carlton. In 2006, Evan began working with Peter at his Big Baby Recording Studios in Manhattan, and with Tina Shafer at the Singer-Songwriter Circle at The Bitter End. With a demo in hand, Evan signed a recording contract as the first artist with Club Road Music Corporation, and set a course for the creation of his debut album. The album features Evan’s vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, along with Peter Zizzo (acoustic and electric guitar), T-Bone Wolk (bass, mandolin, banjo, accordion, twelve-string, Hammond B3, piano), and Joe Bonadio (drums and percussion), among other studio musicians. In late 2008, Evan signed a management agreement with David Sonenberg (DAS Communications), who has successfully managed artists including Meat Loaf, Jim Steinman, The Fugees, the Spin Doctors, Keke Palmer, Joan Osborne, John Legend, The Black Eyed Peas, and Fergie. Currently, Evan is preparing for the release of his album, A Town Called Blue, while performing live at various NYC venues (including The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, The Mercury Lounge, and Arlene’s Grocery) with the Evan Watson Band: Greg Mayo (keys, acoustic and electric guitars, vocals), Chris Anderson (bass, vocals), Jonny Cragg (drums and percussion) and Rebecca Haviland (vocals, keys, and guitar). Evan is also a regular guest artist with the NYC band, The Giving Tree, a band that donates all of its net earnings to The Giving Tree Charitable Foundation.
